Bars, hotels, and restaurants: what's new for the opening of 2024 in France

The sector of bars, hotels, and restaurants in France: a smooth start to 2024

The sector of bars, hotels, and restaurants is relatively unaffected by French legislative changes at the start of 2024.

The most notable change concerns tobacco retailers. A new form of financial aid has been created to support operators who are forced to permanently cease trading without having had the opportunity to find a buyer.

Several conditions apply, regarding the location, the length of time in business, the turnover, and the age of the manager. If all the conditions are met, the tobacconist will be eligible for aid of up to €80,000.This new aid replaces a similar scheme that has been in force since 2017.

The other point that needs to be addressed at the start of 2024 concerns the palaces

The “Palace” distinction is awarded to certain hotels whose level of service is considered exceptional. It is awarded by a specialised committee for a period of 5 years. However, the contracts due to expire on 9 June 2021 have been extended several times. The period of validity of these awards has been extended once again: they will continue to be valid until 30 September 2024.
